LA CIUDAD EN MOVIMIENTO
lunes, noviembre 17, 2003:
All this time
Happiness was looking for you all this time,
stopping in place where you once lived,
asking about you in gas stations and drug stores
where you used to shop. It walked the hallways
of your last house, leafed through
the newspaper left on the table, noting the date.
Happiness was looking for you all this time,
loitering under a road sign 50 miles away,
studying a map by cigarette.
Happiness was looking for you,
months away, then weeks and days. A car
glides up the drive, the gravel crunches
with certainty about this visitor.
A breeze smelling of the river enters the room
even tough theres is no river near;
the house is quiet and calm all mornig
the lost uncle sleeps in the guest room
with his dusty shoes still on.
