If a friend needs a strong shoulder to cry on, offer them one of yours. You're usually the one who likes to do all the talking, but right now is your chance to prove how good a listener you can be. Nod your head and agree with what they're saying as much as possible. Try to avoid telling them what to do or offering stories from your own experience. In order to be a truly good listener, you can't view your friend's problems as an opportunity to put yourself in the spotlight.
